Arrive at the front door after a walk through the old borgo built around the original castle that used to be the stronghold of the Martinozzi family. Nowadays only the main walls are left raising imposingly behind as a protection against the northerly winds that sweep over Tuscany. Open the door, go through the corridor and you will find yourselves in the former knight’s convention room. From this dominating point you enjoy a breathtaking vista of the Crete Senesi framed in the background by the Monte Amiata and the towns of Montalcino and Sienna.

With its high ceiling this room could become an improvised ballroom, or host a dinner party – any kind of social activity. Chances are high that it will be the middle point for your holiday group of up to 9 persons.

The kitchen living with a marble top table is ideal for breakfast or light lunches with not everybody participating. It is fully equipped and even has a fireplace for making Tuscan bruschettas or a small barbecue. The sink has been shaped out of a marble slab and is very comfortable to use for its functional design. Next to the knight’s room there is a sitting room with table and couch. It is possible to make this a fifth bedroom.

The four bedrooms are upstairs, all king-size. Two of them are en suite and have a kitchenette – one of these even sports a fireplace! All of them have a marvellous view for there not being any buildings in front of the house – just the garden! There are two further bathrooms for the rooms without their own bathroom.

Besides the small villages that keep their fascination of earlier times to this date you might as well make a day trip to Perugia or Arezzo, modern cities with a rich past. Or visit Sienna and Florence. All of them are interesting places with an ample offer of past culture and modern life. Also within a daytrip’s reach is the Tuscan coast with beaches ranging among the most beautiful ones in Italy. You will find Castiglione della Pescaia an agreeable beach resort together with its old town centre overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Yet there is much more to explore of the coast – how about Puntala and its turquoise water for instance?

For daily provisions Montisi is two kilometres away - ideal for a trip on the three mountain bikes that are at the guests’ disposal. Trequanda with a small shopping is distant four kilometres, and for mass shopping one takes the road to Sinalunga a town with all amenities and railroad station.

Besides bicycle trips on good roads – black as well white top ones – it is possible to go for tennis, horseback riding or hiking in countryside.
